As you can probably tell by the name of my blog, reading is an integral part of my life. My intention when choosing the name of the blog was to do book reviews on a regular basis. While I still read quite a bit, it’s been quite some time since I actually wrote a book review. I get asked a lot what I’m reading so I thought it would be fun to start that up again. I realized I have at least 20 books I’ve read in the last year that I could review- and that’s only the ones on my Kindle!
I have been trying to come up with some rating system for the books so that my readers can have an easy way to know just how much I recommend (or don’t) a book. I think I’m going with stars for now (yes, I know, original!) and see how that works.
I do set pretty high standards for books. There are too many really good ones out there for me to wade through something I don’t love, so you probably wont see too many 1 star reviews here because I probably didn’t finish it.
I also don’t tolerate too much sexuality in a book. While I do read secular fiction on a semi-regular basis, I have been known to delete a book off my kindle within 5 minutes of starting a book if I can tell it will be too graphic for my taste. (Looking at you, James Patterson.) I will always let you know of any “scenes” in a book so you can choose for yourself. (Why oh why don’t books have ratings like movies?)
Some books, it’s been too long for me to write a full review so I’ll group together several “review-ettes” in a post.
Here’s my breakdown:
- 1 star- don’t even bother
- 2 stars- pretty good story, won’t read it again
- 3 stars- a decent read
- 4 stars- highly recommended, story kept me engrossed
- 5 stars- please please read it! Talk to me about the book! I’ll read it again!
Get ready for my first new review next week, and in the meantime, check out these posts: (Just click the image to be taken to the post! Easy peasy!)
