Decoupe (Texas)

Here’s one of my handsome little helpers.
We started out by tearing up about 5 different patterns of scrapbook paper into 2-3 inch pieces.
This is really fun for kids because, well, it’s being told to rip up something. Need I say more?
We went with a teal/dark red/khaki color scheme.
(and by we, I mean me! Gotta have some control here!)
Then, use ModPodge to adhere the paper to a canvas. I got this at Hobby Lobby using a 40% off coupon (don’t EVER buy anything full price at HL unless its full price is about twelve cents!)- I think it cost around $7. I love that it’s oval!
The kids also helped with this- nothing has to be perfect and as long as you don’t have huge sections of the same color, all’s fair!
Then, cover the entire piece with another thin layer of ModPodge.
Next, take whatever shape you want and cut it out. (Texas Forever!)
I just found this outline online.
Lightly trace it on your piece of art.
Then, paint around your shape, so that only the area of the shape remains unpainted. Clear as mud?
Well here’s the finished product.
You can also lightly sand over the painted portion so that a little more of the color shows through. Then hang it on your formerly way-too-bare walls and relish in the fact that you did an art project with your kiddos that didn’t end up with anyone getting upset!
