This week seems to be “Gift Guide” week over here, even though it was totally unintentional! I’ve been meaning to write this post since last Christmas, when my husband totally rocked one of my Christmas gifts. It was basically a blogger’s dream, full of some things I wouldn’t have even thought of! He called it the “Blogger’s Necessities Kit.”
Excuse this horrific picture, it was Christmas morning and we don’t so much get dressed up for that! (Also, my shirt says “American Blogger.” Love it!)
Anyway, I know that many people have a blogger in their lives since there are literally hundreds of thousands of bloggers, so I thought a little gift guide might be helpful for those of you wondering what in the world to get a blogger. (or maybe even what we do? 😉 )
1.) First up, and definitely most important for me, was an external hard drive.
It’s something I knew I needed but simply had not taken the time to purchase. This one automatically updates when you plug it into the computer- it’s amazing!
2.) An external battery would also be awesome- just be sure you know exactly what computer your blogger has.
3.) Giftcards for where they like to work (You can earn free giftcards through using Swagbucks! Find out more about that here.)
In my gift last year, Ben put in Starbucks and Panera Bread gift cards because I like to go there a few times a month to work uninterrupted.
4.) A notepad and pen– even though the bulk of our work is done on the computer, I still almost always have a notebook and pen around to jot down ideas and keep track of income and expenses. I LOVE this journal- it looks nice and sturdy, plus you can customize it what a monogram. It also gets great reviews on Amazon.
5.) Snacks– Ben put in a few things I like to snack on for those times I’m working for hours and don’t stop for a meal. (This is a rare occurrence, I promise, but does happen sometimes) I also work late into the night sometimes when everyone else is asleep, and snacks are always welcome, then, as well.
6.) The gift of Amazon Prime would always be welcomed as well. Sometimes I need supplies and don’t want to make a trip to the store. Amazon Prime is perfect- I have my items in 2 days and don’t have to load up and take 4 kids to an office supply store.
7.) The gift of time– away from the computer. Blogging is one of those jobs that can be all-consuming because there is ALWAYS something that could be done. Although I have become much better at stepping away, previously I would stay on for hours because again, there is always something to do. Give your blogger something that gets them out of the house- a membership to the zoo, exercise classes, a date with you, whatever!
8.) A free gift! Read his or her blog and talk to them about it! I was talking with a blogging friend earlier this year and she told me a family goes on and on about other people’s blogs to her, but never even mentions her own blog. I’m not saying everyone has to be a number one fan, but it is nice when those in your life mention (or even acknowledge) your job.
9.) Computer accessories– Is your blogger in dire need of a new laptop bag? A mouse? A new charger? Sometimes we’re reluctant to buy these things until they’re completely dilapidated so check out our desks and see what could use replacing!
10.) The gift of a blogging conference. I have attended Blog Elevated in the Houston area the last two years and the knowledge and relationships I have procured during this time are invaluable. It’s so helpful to be around others who have gone before you and have learned so much. (and are graciously willing to share!) I also love to help others who are newer to blogging than I am. Search out blog conferences in your area and see if it’s workable in your gifting budget.
(Check out this blogger gift guide from another blogger. Her list is almost completely different from mine, and tons of great ideas!)
If you’re a blogger, what would you love to add to the list? I just might do a part 2 if I get enough feedback!
Also, be sure to check out my gift guides for foodies and outdoorsmen.
Love it!!
I love these ideas! I would also include stationary items and an iMac is definitely on my list for Santa. I think a planner would also be a great addition to help plan out posts, social media promotion, etc.
Great list! My husband is getting me blogging themed gift for Christmas and I’m so excited!!
Love your list of ideas! Thanks for sharing.
YES! These are all so important!
EXCELENTE!!! Will be posting this on my Feibu page. BB2U
