Three Things you Need for Potty Training

It’s about that time again- our fourth go around at potty training! I can’t believe Canaan is already about to enter this phase of life- wasn’t he just born yesterday?

three thing you need for potty training

We haven’t had a particularly hard time with any of our kids potty training, but the girls were without a doubt easier than Landon. I’m interested to see how it will go this time with our littlest boy! With 3 other kids to take care of, I’m hoping for it to be quick and painless. (Is this wishful thinking?)

Anyway, there are three things I recommend for anyone about to embark on potty training.

1.) a “kid-sized” toilet-I highly recommend this when you’re beginning to potty train. All of ours have used it and it made it much easier for them to go on their own. They might feel a little scared on the “big potty” and one that is their size can make a world of difference.

This one is really neat because it converts to a stepstool so your little one can wash his or her hands after pottying as well.

(Psst… be sure to check out my friend Becky’s book about potty training in a weekend! It REALLY works for tons of people! Click here to view more details!)

2.) Pull-Ups®

These babies help in so many ways! Your potty training child will be able to get the Pull-Up®  down on his or her own, which makes going potty so much easier than with a regular diaper. Also, if the little one has an accident, it doesn’t make a huge mess. Also, the side tabs make for easy changes if needed.

I picked up Pull-Ups® last time I was at Kroger so we can get this party started for Canaan!

He does look a bit adorable in them, doesn’t he?

A bonus resource: the Big Kid Academy (pull-ups.com) can help you and your child in your potty training journey! Potty training is a process that takes time and Pull-Ups®  is there to help you with the journey. For keeping track of potty training, the Pull-Ups® Time to Potty App is perfect!

3.) Patience, and lots of it!

Remember that potty training is completely new to your child and give them plenty of time and grace to learn this new “skill.” It will go much better for both of you, I promise!

Stickers on a big poster for each time they use the potty. Set a goal for the day and give them a small prize as incentive.

  2. We’ve used a little potty for all of our kids, but my toddler now refuses to use it. ‘Nope. Big potty!”

  3. Potty training is such an adventure, isn’t it?! We found that Pull-Ups® were helpful to us – as well as a sticker chart! #client
