I Find Jesus!

My 2 year old daughter Evaleigh has a new-found love for baby dolls. As in, she usually has about three in her arms and looking for another one. It’s pretty stinkin’ cute. Anyway, one day last week, she decided that this was going to be her new favorite baby doll:

It is the baby Jesus from the plastic nativity we have- so that the kids won’t break the nice one!

For perspective, here is how big it is on a remote control:

I knew this was going to be a problem, because, you know, who can keep up with a one-inch long baby doll? Especially one who is 2 years old and still needs at least one hand free for sucking on two fingers like this:

We were outside and in the garage that day while my hubby was putting our Christmas lights outside.

All of the sudden I heard her shrieking like something was bad wrong. I ran in the garage and she was crying and babbling something. If you’ve heard 2 year olds talk, it’s sometimes hard to understand them when they’re not upset, but I finally realized she was saying, “Jesus! Jesus!” Apparently baby Jesus had already been lost. If you’ve seen our garage, you know that looking for this tiny babe is worse than the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Well the real Jesus was with me that day because I walked to the other side of the garage, looked down, and there he was at my feet.

I handed the baby doll to Evaleigh and she immediately started laughing through her tears and saying, “I find Jesus! I find Jesus!”

My heart swelled at this proclamation. She was SOOO excited to find “Jesus”.  It made me think of the future when we pray that she really does find a relationship with Jesus. I loved that this happened during Advent, too, when we look forward to celebrating the birth of Christ.

If you have heard of Jesus but still aren’t sure what he’s all about, please e-mail me. I’d love to chat with you, and I would also love to send you a Bible if you don’t have one.

I pray that you can say with my daughter, “I find Jesus!”
