prayer and fasting

Today, I’m spent the first minutes of the morning praying. I’m not eating until dinnertime. And a certain issue is weighing heavily on my heart. Mandy, a fellow blogger from Biblical Homemaking, has created a day of prayer and fasting centered around the topic of abortion. (You can read more here about statistics concerning abortion. ) This has long been a passion of mine. {I blogged about it before here.}

From the time I was in high school, I found myself praying for women who find themselves pregnant and not wanting the baby. Women who are raped. Women who find themselves in the ridiculously hard situation of having to choose to end baby’s life because they feel that they just can’t take care of one more.

I can’t pretend to know what it’s like to be in any of these situations. I don’t know. But I can pray for those who are. Pray that they would choose life. Pray that even if they are unable to take care of the baby after her or she is born, that they could share that precious baby and give a barren couple the greatest gift- that of adoption. Reach out to women who are in this difficult situation.

I once heard someone say (and I SO wish I could remember the source) that every newborn that is born in the United States WILL be adopted. There are so many couples who want to raise a baby from birth, that the ones who are aborted would be able to fill their empty arms. To me this is a tragedy.

So having juice for a couple of meals and spending time in prayer is such a small thing. According to scripture, there are prayers that God will answer through prayer and fasting. I am praying that even one woman’s heart is changed today about choosing life for her baby.

{And if you have gone through an abortion and need someone to talk with or pray with you, please feel free to e-mail me. God’s grace is full and bountiful and nothing is out of the realm of his forgiveness!}
