trying new things:: a blooming fashionista

Hi y’all! I’m starting off today’s post with a quick quiz for ya. I’ll even make it multiple choice!

Q: Why have I bought several new outfits recently?
 a) I got rid of over 1/2 my wardrobe during The Closet Project
b) a good portion of the remaining half are maternity clothes
c) another good portion are getting too big as I lose weight (yay!)
d) I got amazingly good deals on {most of} them
e) all of the above

If you chose {e} you win! Due to the above factors AND the fact that many of the clothes I own that are wearable are many, many years old, I’ve bought a few things this summer. And if you know me, I won’t drop a lot of cash on any outfit. {My wedding dress cost $300 if that tells you anything!}

I subtitled the post “a blooming fashionista” very sarcastically, but I am trying new things and really enjoying it! The other day I was wearing a belt around my waistline (versus my hips) and Ben was like “What is up with that?” and I told him to take a look around. Sure enough later that day, he said, “Wearing a belt is a thing now, I guess!” ha!

One of my favorite new-ish trends is colored bottoms like this:

They can easily add a little pizzaz (does anyone use that word anymore?) to any outfit.
Outfit details:
Black damask print shirt: Forever 21, $17
(I am overly obsessed with damask print, but that is a post for another day!)
yellow shorts: LOFT, given to me
coral bangle: H&M, $4
t-strap sandals: Target, $5 (you can get them online for $12)
Total for outfit: $26!

If I look totally relaxed, it’s because we were on vacation when Ben took it. (that also explains the wrinkled shorts! Ah, who am I kidding, I rarely iron!) More on vacation later, too! What you can’t see in the background is the storm that was brewing that nixed our beach going for the evening. You can see it here from our restaurant table:
Anyway, clothes obviously aren’t even close to the top of the list of important things in life, but it is fun to try new things occasionally, and even better if they don’t break the bank!
What is your favorite fashion trend right now?
Where do you go to buy clothes on the cheap?

  1. I go to Forever21 for stuff that is cheap but also trending. If there is a piece or look I really want I go there first for an option.

So cool that you were able to do The Closet Project! Congrats on losing weight too!

Show off your look! Get inspired & Link up with me at Whatcha Wearing Wednesday! http://www.themummychronicles.com

  2. It is fun to try new things! I’ve been making myself try more color lately. I usually tend to wear a lot of grey and black.
I shop sale racks at Gap like nobody’s business. I’ve found beautiful items there for like $4! I also shop Goodwill, and my friend Rachel’s closet. And she shops in mine, too. Free shopping=the best shopping.
