Baby London

I don’t normally write about other things going on in other people’s lives (especially people I don’t know) because I don’t believe they are my stories to tell. However, the story of little London Lara captured my heart from the beginning and I can’t get his family out of my head and prayers.

Perhaps it’s because one of my sons is named Landon, very similar to London.
Perhaps it’s because I have a healthy newborn son of my own.
Perhaps it’s because he was born and passed away in a suburb of the city where I live.
So many factors that hit close to home.

London was born yesterday and lived only for an hour. His mom and dad were told earlier in pregnancy that he had anencephaly and they chose to carry him as long as possible. He was delivered at 32 weeks and because his mom has health problems, she had to be under general anesthesia. She didn’t know if she would see him alive at all.

Praise God, she did.

Last night, after reading about London’s short life, I took my newborn outside and just held him. No distractions, just enjoying time with him. It doesn’t happen often with three other kids around here, but I just really wanted to have some one-on-one with Canaan. Reading stories like these always remind me that we are not promised tomorrow- for ourselves or our loved ones.

If you have a moment, please say a prayer for the Lara family. They have a difficult road ahead of them.
