Our family loves to be on the go, having adventures together. During the summer, a week may have us at the park, the zoo, the pool a few times, or the beach. Sometimes the trips are spontaneous and we may forget an essential thing or two at home. (I can’t wait to share about our latest spontaneous trip- it was a little more exciting than the park. 😉 Here’s a little hint.)
On day trips like these, I hate having to run into the store to get something I know we have at home, am I right? Especially if Ben is not with me and I’m bringing all 4 kids in with me.
I decided to make a “Car Spare Parts” box for the back of our SUV. I actually stole this idea from my friend Kati- it’s genius! The box contains essentials such as spare diapers, wipes, snacks that aren’t affected by heat (oh, Houston summers!), water bottles, etc to keep us moving when we’re out and about.
I also included the new Extra® 35-stick pack in super durable packaging. I picked up a few packages (Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice® are the flavors in these packs) at the checkout line last time I was in Kroger. I love having gum with me but the typical packaging gets absolutely mauled in my purse, or really, wherever I keep it.
But this package? It can survive even darkest recesses of large bags or my children fighting over handling it. Bonus! The package is made from recycled material! I also love that the packages have 35 pieces of gum in them- I’m more likely to share with my kiddos when I have a pack of gum that big. 😉
Its super easy to make your on car spare parts bag! First, gather your supplies: (I share a list of recommended items at the end)
Then add them to whatever tote/box/bag you choose. I started at the bottom of my bag with a waterproof blanket. We use this thing ALL the time. Even if the grass is wet or we’re at the beach, it dries in like 2 seconds. I don’t think this exact one is available anymore but this one looks good!)
Then add in your other items and throw it in the back of your car! Then, have a blast with your kids!
what I packed in my car spare parts bag:
diapers
wipes
gum
snacks
water bottles
sunscreen
towel
waterproof blanket
extra clothes for my youngest
flash lights
what I may add:
Children’s acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen
swim suits
a toy or two
I’d love to hear if you do this, too, and what other items you keep in the car! Let me know in the comments!

Love this idea and the bag!!! Will you share where you got it??
Rachel, it’s from wal-mart!
This is such a great idea! Gum has recently been my 4-year old’s obsession (now that he knows to chew it and not swallow it). I love how this package contains 35 sticks so I don’t mind sharing with him! #client
