Family Traditions {31 Days of All Things Children Day 29}

One of the things we have really tried to establish in our family is traditions. It’s really fun for the kids when they have something to look forward to each week, month or year.

One of our long-standing traditions is family night- which has fallen on Monday nights for several years. We don’t plan anything else on Mondays. Life does sometime happen but for the most part I would say that 90% of Mondays are for our family only!

We don’t do anything elaborate. If the weather is nice we sometimes go to a park or for a walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes we go to Bass Pro and just walk around. Sometimes we go out to eat (Mondays are “Kids Eat Free” at Texas Roadhouse where we live, and it’s also family night at Johnny Carino’s.) So it’s cheaper to eat out on Mondays for our family, and not as crowded as the weekends! Win/win.

If we don’t go out, Ben will sometimes grill and we’ll just enjoy our backyard. We usually wrap up the evening by watching a short show- Lassie or Shawn the Sheep. It may not seem like a huge deal, but when we have an extremely busy weekend (like we did this weekend), it’s nice to know that Monday is coming when we can just relax with the family! Actually makes Mondays not so bad. 🙂

Comments

  1. Aww this looks so fun! I LOVE family traditions ; )

  2. We had family night on Fridays when our boys were with us. We usually played Wii games or watched a movie – almost always got or made a pizza. It was fun!

  3. I LOVE family traditions. My kids are a little young to do anything really specific but we do try to do little things like reading before bedtime and such. I look forward to the time when family night is something we can try (and all of us can participate in!)

  4. I love the idea of traditions! We don’t have kids but we have little traditions all over the place – even down to breakfast and tea time rituals to favourite tv shows we always watch together. I think we could do with starting some more traditions though 🙂
