So I’m 2 weeks into a new series and already failed to get it up on time! So I’m whipping this out on Saturday morning- it will be short and sweet- we’re enjoying a lazy morning at home.
First up:
This podcast. When I say favorite, it’s because it’s stuff I NEED to hear, not what I want to hear. If you ever struggle with speaking words that aren’t loving, kind, encouraging, (even in times of discipline and anger! ow!) then this podcast is for you! Oh, my word, SO good.
It’s set amidst the rolling hills of East Texas, about 5 minutes from where I grew up. (My hometown and high school are mentioned numerous times- talking about “hitting close to home.”) In a nutshell, prior to this tragedy, natural gas did not have a smell. (It’s now added in.) A massive gas leak in the New London High School combined with a spark from an electric sander caused the entire school to explode- 13 minutes before school dismissed for the weekend. I can’t bear to think about. Some parents lost all of their children, many children lost their parents. Over 300 were killed in the day dubbed “The Day a Generation Died.” There’s a whole cemetery nearly-wholly comprised of small victims of this catastrophe. So when I say favorite, it’s not because it’s a feel-good book (obviously) but because it’s a long, hard look at a terrible event that shaped history.
This blog- Modern Mrs. Darcy. I read her blog several years ago and then just stopped reading ANY blogs for a long-while, mostly because all of my spare time went into developing my own. Her posts started popping up in my Facebook feed a few weeks ago and I’m hooked! Seriously good if you’re wanting book advice and incredibly well-written and thought-provoking posts.\
That’s all for today friends. I think I’ve given you plenty to keep you busy this next week. 😉
