I’ve loved sharing tips each day on how our family saves money. One of the best books I’ve read on the topic is Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. He basically brings to light how many Americans have the wrong perception of money and debt. He walks the reader through “7 Baby Steps” that will help get you out of debt and into the habit of saving.
I’d love to share a copy of The Total Money Makeover with one of my readers! It really can be a life-changing tool to help straighten out ones’ finances. Please enter to win using the Rafflecopter below. Let me know if you have any questions on how to enter!
My favorite way to save money is garage sales and second hand stores. The tricky part is to resist the “impulse” buying, I find it worse than a traditional store. I keep a list on me at all times and also give a copy to my friends who shop at garage sales and second stores of what I NEED and the most I am willing to spend on said item. I also love to purge from my home and sell at a resale shop (household goods, clothes etc) and keep up on who gives the best % as well as the best store to sell items due to traffic. I try to live with the rule “something in something out” also as a reformed (semi?) hoarder.
Ooh giving your friends a list is a great idea! What type of resale shop do you sell at?
Yes, I’m a semi-reformed hoarder, too. 🙂
I love saving money by using coupons and by items on sale with coupons. It is such a great feeling to save as much money as possible.
Diana I agree! Saving money is actually pretty fun!
I love coupling and getting a good deal whenever I can!
Yes coupling is a great way to save! Thanks for entering!
Would love to win this!
Good luck Tiffany! 🙂
I have a lot of respect for Dave Ramsey. I found Emeals through him, back when it was Total Meal Makeover! I’ve never dove in and bought the book, but it would be a great tool for us.
Rachel- a friend of mine mentioned eMeals- do you still use it?
My favorite way to save money is sharing second hand items with friends – good for the wallet and the environment.
Lots of good ideas. I’ve been enjoying your financial savvy series, Kelli.
Thanks Phoebe Joy! 🙂
My favorite way to save money is by combining manufacturer coupons with store coupons, store rewards, sale prices, and rebates.
I love combining coupons, too, Cheryla! Thanks for entering!
We save by having 1car and combining errands.
Those are great ways, Angel!
My favorite way to save money is to just not go shopping unless you really need something like food or the little one has outgrown all of his shoes etc. Too many people use shopping as a hobby or sport, this can get you into all kinds of trouble buying things you don’t really need, which is a big waste of money!
Jennifer that is great advice. I was just thinking about this the other day- shopping should NOT be a hobby!
As a recent graduate, finally entering the “real world”, I would love to learn about more effectively managing a budget and putting away money toward things that will be beneficial to me in the future.
Thanks Cierra for commenting! Good luck on the giveaway!
I buy in the off season… right now I just got my kids swimsuits for next summer!
I am currently reading Total Money Makeover I borrowed it from the library, and I love it. I needed this jolt. I would love to win my own copy.
Awesome Brooke! Good luck!
I love buying snacks at the dollar store. Chips, poptarts and cookies for my husbands lunches are are great deal!
This is awesome!! I’m so glad I saw it before it ended. My fiancé and I were talking about this the other day. Several people have recommended that we get this book and start this before we get married and then continue it. I haven’t bought the book, but I looked up the basic steps online. I would love to actually have the book to read. Right now we’re saving money by not eating out. I never realized how much we were both spending at fast food and restaurants each month. It was crazy!
Awesome Hannah! I know, eating out can add up a lot! Good luck!
PS when is the wedding?
March 15! 🙂
Coupons and price matching.
I love price matching
I love saving money by using coupons and buying things on sale. I never use my credit cards and always use cash, which helps me from impulse shopping.
I am a big fan of buying the store brand (its a great way to save money)..I also wait to buy things until I have a coupon for it (clothes, shoes, etc)..I love buying clothes but I usually shop at discount stores, wait till things are on sale, or buy things off season.
I love saving money by refusing to buy anything full price. I also consign all of my clothes and use the credit to buy clothes for my family, or buy my son’s clothes at Salvation Army ($.50 a piece!). I’ve also entered a few giveaways and won Christmas gifts this year, which is great! 🙂 I’m almost finished Christmas “shopping” and haven’t even bought anything! I also looove making gifts. I’ve always been crafty, and when I see something I like, I just make it myself!
I save money by shopping for produce at the farmer’s market and minimizing our consumption of processed foods.
I love to save money by ad matching and couponing!

Make a budget every month and use a cash system only. I have been following Dave’s recommendations for the last several years and we were able to pay off a significant amount of debt!
Buying in bulk and eating at home.
keep things simple. there are many good articles and books available for free over the internet. Many puzzles to download for free. educational entertainment.
I use coupons, and check prices before I make purchases
My husband and I only been tracking how much we were spending on food (groceries and eating out) for the past 6 months… and let me tell you, it was a HUGE eye opener. I think the most important thing is to know how much you are spending and how much the averages are. Now that we have this information, we’ve been able to drastically reduce our “food budget.” We eat at home more often, pay attention to weekly fliers, and coupon and price match. We are saving $400 per month on our food budget so far, and we continue to save more each month.
I like to save money by combining coupons with sales. It’s like a challenge.
This is kind of a funny one. When I am shopping and see things that I want to buy but know I shouldn’t because I want to save, I walk around the store holding the items while I continue looking. More often than not, I decide that I am fine without whatever it was that was sparkly and shiny. 🙂
My favorite way to save money is to use coupons, not shop when I’m hungry, and buy groceries in bulk
I like to save money by couponing expecially at store such as CVS where you can combine a store coupon and a manufacturers coupon.
Stop buying coffee from Starbucks every time I leave the house! It may be only $3.00, but it adds up FAST!
