Dresser redo, and a bit of nostalgia

These dressers. They hold so many memories of my childhood.

They also, obviously, hold lots of dirt from fingerprints over the last 31 years. 🙂 I had scrubbed and scrubbed them, to no avail.
Maybe even a name inscription found its way onto the chest of drawers.

My sister and I shared a room for several years growing up. These were our dressers. We are 3 years, 8 months apart in age. I won’t tell who’s older. 🙂

 My daughters
I am very blessed that I am able to use them for my own daughters. They are 3 years, 10 months apart in age. Pretty awesome, right? I was so excited when we found out our #3 was a girl- simply because I love having a sister! I hope and pray they are as close as my sister and I are today. {we won’t talk about how I treated her growing up. 🙂 }
Anyway, I’m getting all teary eyed and we were talking about dressers, no? This month I’m excited to be joining a group of bloggers who are all “Refreshing” a piece of furniture each month. This one of my favorite things to do, and by do I mean think of it and have my husband paint it. 😉
This month, the theme is “Inspired by” and my furniture redo is inspired by my childhood! (Be sure to check out the other bloggers at the end of the post!)
I really wanted to keep these dressers because they are REAL wood, y’all! Now I have my fair share of IKEA furniture, but there’s something about an old piece of furniture made out of the real stuff.
So I convinced my hubby to help me paint them. And by him helping me, I mean him doing most of the work. 🙂 He’s a much better painter than I, I promise!

Even primer made them look better!

I had a moment of indecision- of course after the awesome neighbor boys had helped Ben carry these very heavy babies down the stairs. But it was time to paint them. I will miss the sweet yellow and blue flowers I’ve seen in my various houses the last 31 years. Our older daughter’s nursery was painted to match the flowers.
I did do my own stencil work. 🙂

The chest of drawers is completely finished! Not bad for a weekend. {Things move sloooow with a toddler around!} What do you think? Please don’t say you hate it, I might cry!
I love, love, love items featuring initials. If there is such an item in a store, I almost always look at it longingly.

So why not put an initial on the furniture, right?

The other dresser will be done soon. I had a stencil mistake at around 9 p.m. Sunday night and didn’t have the motivation to fix it right then. Another initial adorns that baby, for my other baby girl. 🙂

Total cost of this project: around $16- four cans of spray paint at Hobby Lobby- on sale of course! 🙂
Pink paint, primer, and stencil were already on hand.
