As a mom of 4, I truly love spending time with my kids all day long, but I’m not going to lie and say that we don’t love bedtime! Throughout the years and additions to our family, the routine has changed up a bit but several things have stayed the same. There are a few things we consider essential for getting ready for bed.
1.) cute PJs.
There’s nothing I love more than putting a freshly-bathed baby into clean PJs. I really like these! Putting on the PJs signifies the beginning of the bedtime routine for us!
2.) A good bedtime story.
We absolutely love Goodnight Gorilla. It’s a fun book and Canaan loves naming all of the animals in it as we read. We also like Go Dog Go, and Goodnight Houston. (You can find out our other favorite toddler books here.) Reading is such a good way to calm the kids down and spend a little time together.
3.) Good diapers
Thankfully my kids sleep a long time at night. In the past, sometimes they would sleep so long they would be woken up by their wet, leaky diaper. No good! A diaper needs to let those babies sleep!
That’s where Huggies® Snug & Dry Ultra Diapers come in. I picked some up at Wal-Mart the other day (they’re also available online at Walmart.com!) and they keep little bottoms dry up to 12 hours at night- which is a relief for this mama!
Plus, they have fun Mickey designs on them which Canaan loves and best of all, they are now a lower price! You can learn more about Huggies® Snug & Dry Ultra Diapers at Walmart.com !
4.) A “lovey”
Presently Canaan’s lovey is his paci. Or pacis, I should say. When Landon, our oldest, was a toddler, he loved his stuffed kitty cat. We like giving them something that will soothe them in case they wake up in the middle of the night. This could be a blanket, stuffed animal, or even something intangible like soothing music playing in the room.
5.) Cuddling
This picture melts my heart- Landon reading a bedtime story to Canaan.
Our kids absolutely love cuddling! Every night one or the other of us (or both!) will spend time in each child’s room just snuggling and talking. I have to make myself do this sometimes because as I said, usually at bedtime I’m D.O.N.E., but I’m always glad when I take the time.
At the end of a long day, it’s nice having a nice routine to wind down and prepare for sleep. How do you get your kids ready for bed?
