Perspective: It Can Change Everything

Last fall, my sweet baby girl was sick.

well hello there, inside of her mouth!

She threw up every day or every other day for weeks. She was just shy of one year, and of course I was worried. We took her to the doctor a few times and called several times. It turns out she had reflux, and after only a few days on Zantac, she was much, much better.

If you’ve ever had a child that threw up constantly, you know that besides worrying for your child, what it also means:

LAUNDRY.
And lots of it.

Pretty much during those weeks, I did what little bit of homeschool with my son that I could, I held my baby, and I did laundry. I missed church; I even missed our church anniversary celebration. As a church planter’s wife, that’s a big deal.

Suffice it to say, I had a little pity party going for myself.

One day, I was dropping my son off at his homeschool co-op class and one of the sweet moms asked how I was doing. This woman is the epitome of a godly woman to me.

I told her- trying not to whine too much- about how the last few weeks had been, and I included the part about the laundry.

She said, “Oh, yes I know. When my son had cancer,  (he also has Down’s syndrome) the chemo made him so sick. He threw up all the time and I didn’t have a washer and dryer. So I had to take the laundry to a laundromat.” Oh, and during this time, she was a single mom.

Wow. She in no way meant to make me feel guilty- she was only sharing her experience involving vomit and mountains of laundry.

But I thought, here I am complaining about a few extra loads of laundry.

My child didn’t have cancer, she had reflux.
I didn’t have to go to the laundromat, I had a washer and dryer right in my house.
When I was at my wit’s end by the end of the day, my husband was there to relieve me.

Now, was that time still hard for me?
Yes.

But did my perspective change?
Absolutely.

I am so thankful for when God can change my perspective about a situation.

Can you think of a time your perspective has been changed?
