pray {a cheerful giver}

“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For
God loves a person who gives cheerfully’.”
I Corinthians 9:7

What do you think God wants us to “give” when you read this verse? For most people (like myself), I am sure that money comes to mind. And it’s true, in the context of this verse, Paul is urging the Corinthians to continue their monetary giving, and to do it happily.

But what if we expanded this thinking to other areas of our lives?

The most precious commodity to me at this point in my life is time, as I am sure is the case for many of you reading
this. And sadly, I get a bit selfish with it.

God is definitely stretching me in this area. I have had so many requests for counseling/mentoring in the last few weeks I couldn’t count them on one hand. And it just so happens that these requests came during one of the most busy/emotional weeks we’ve had lately. (Busy as in we made not one but two three-hour trips to our hometown within 9 days. Emotional because the trips were to say goodbye to Ben’s granny, and then for Ben to have the honor of performing her funeral service.)

And I get excited about helping other women, really, truly I do. It is one of my passions in life. But sometimes, when the time actually comes, I am thinking, “I need to be doing laundry, or cooking dinner,” or whatever. But this is not the attitude God wants.

He wants me to give of my time cheerfully. And you know what? I have never left a counseling/mentoring time regretting that time. I always leave in some way encouraged and blessed. God is so faithful!

What is something you could pray to give more of in a cheerful manner?
