This man.
I love him so much and his heart for generosity is just amazing. See, even here he’s not only cooking for us, but helping me with a blog post that I got in way over my head!
Even on Father’s Day, he’ll be serving others at our church, and on Saturday he’s taking our family, plus my cousin and her kids (whose dad died several years ago) to the beach- when going to the beach isn’t necessarily his favorite thing.
He’s not only generous towards us, though, he has led me to give to others – sometimes when I just did not feel like it, but I was always so thankful that we did. Giving to others has now just become a part of our family. We like teaching our kids that when we have more than enough, it is our responsibility to share with others who don’t. Thankfully, we didn’t enter our marriage with any debt. (no money, either, but at least it wasn’t a deficit! ha!) We have committed to no credit card debt and are on a reasonable budget.
I’m not going to lie- I like that saving money in some areas allows us to take vacations and do little upgrades on our home. But what I really love? Having extra money to give. Because we don’t have debt (besides our house, and just recently, a used car), we are able to give in areas that mean a lot to us.
Just last month, we were helping a family who has a sick baby with an immigration lawyer and were prepared to pay the original consult fee out of our pockets, but because the lawyer was very generous, he didn’t charge anything. But it felt good that we WERE able to do that because we haven’t strapped ourselves too tightly. (Believe me, we’ve been in those places when hubby made no money. But now, there’s no reason for us not to be generous.)
I’m not saying this to get attention- AT ALL. I just love encouraging other people to look for little ways they can carve out a few bucks to help others. Maybe you can’t give $500 to a non-profit, but maybe you CAN give up a few coffees out a month to help a child in a third-world country receive food and education. (Due to my income from this blog, we are able to support 3 children and it’s one of my favorite things to do. I even got to meet one of my children last year.) Maybe you don’t have an extra $100 a month to give, but maybe you can pick up an extra $1 hamburger at the drive-through to give to the homeless man on the corner.
And there’s a limit to the money, I know that. This may sound cheesy, but it’s true- we all can’t do everything but almost every single American could do something if we look for ways to save money in other areas. (psst… click here to print out a free budget worksheet)
That’s why I’m glad to partner with Walmart Family Mobile– it’s one way that a family on a tight budget can save money each month so that it frees up some cash. If you’re looking for a way to to build in some wiggle room in your budget by cutting down on your phone costs, Walmart Family Mobile might be your answer. I recently picked up the Alcatel Pop Astro while shopping with this cutie at Wal-Mart. (We may or may not have been Father’s Day shopping. 😉 )
The phone was just a little over $60 and one month of Wal-Mart Family mobile service is just $29.88 for the first line, which includes 1G of 4G LTE data. (Make sure to pick up a SimCard if you’re new to Wal-Mart Family mobile.) That is an amazing price for mobile service!
Here’s what the Wal-Mart Family Mobile display looks like in the store:
I loved that I could download fun- and helpful apps- to use (including one for budgeting!) My huband loved that the talk, text and data is unlimited- the man can talk on a phone almost as much as a teenage girl in the 90s!
I’d love to hear your ideas of how to save money! We are always looking for new ways to implement!
