the encouragement project: week six {young believers}

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,
 but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12

In honor of my son’s baptism this coming weekend {hooray!}, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage young believers. As the verse above clearly implies, young people can and are great examples- even to us older folks!

My son is a great example to me. I cannot tell you the number of times Landon tells us, “God is the most important thing.” I’ll tell him to read fun books- which he does occasionally- but he usually tells me, “I just want to read the Bible.”

This morning, after we came home from Allie’s dance class, he told me he was going to his room for a while to “think about Jesus.” Imagine my heart swelling (and my eyes watering) as I heard him a few minutes later, singing a made-up worship song to his Lord.

He also told me today that when he grows up, he wants to be a preacher. I am sure his pepaw and daddy will be thrilled. 🙂 {On a funny side note, he once told Pepaw that he was a Baptist preacher but his dad was only kinda Baptist! Too funny.}

This kid gets it. And I am proud to be his mama.

What young believer can you encourage today?

    I am thrilled to welcome Landon as my brother in Christ! He is an awesome kid and although I haven’t spent but just a little time around him, I could tell as special he was, and even then he made this old lady feel special.

    As a newspaper reporter/writer/editor I have the honor of spending many hours at the schools. This morning it was with 2nd and 3rd graders who were being entertained by an the author Chester Drawers. It doesn’t take much to encourage or children. Sometimes just a smile or a funny song. The laughter of children is one of the best sounds in the world.

    Love you Landon and I am so proud of the boy you are and the man you will become!

  4. Kelli! I love what you wrote on Katie blog. Would you mind me reporting this on my son Romans blog. He was and hid sister were born sith congenital heart disease. What you wrote couldn’t be more perfect advise and I would love to share it . I have two blogs one is our family blog and the other is go help people who discover they have a child with CHD. When I was 19 weeks pregnant they discovered that our son had a heart defect. Then they told us we should consider aborting him. Not an option for us. Let me know what you think . Thanks kelleyn

  5. Beth, you are so sweet and I will pass along your kind words to Landon. Hope you are doing well!
