A while back, I wrote a post for Money Saving Mom about how to use Groupon to boost your vacation budget. One of the commentors, Crystal, mentioned using Groupon for booking their travel accomodations. We have not done that before, so I asked her to update me to let me know how it went. I honestly did not expect to hear back from her, because people get busy and forget!
But Thursday, I received a very helpful e-mail from her- check it out:
“My name is Crystal and I commented on an article you wrote for MomSavingMom.com on Groupon use while traveling. You asked me to update you on our experience using Groupon for travel, well we are back from Kauai , Hawaii and it was the best !
We purchased the World International Resorts Groupon for $399, for that price you could pick from select locations ( around 100) and condos ( around 500+) , for any number of people in your party. We saved around $1300 for 8 days/7 nights in Kauai . We had a 4 bedroom, 4 bath condo which included fully stocked kitchen, dvd players, ipod stations (2), coolers, beach chairs/towels, board games, tennis, basketball, playground, horseshoe pits and pool area for no extra charge. We did have to pay additional fees ( Hawaiian and Mexican resorts add energy tax and sales tax) of $125, so really it was $524 for the condo, not too bad.
There were no sales pitches ( they were optional , no pressure) and everyone was really helpful with directions, sites and food options. Overall we would purchase this package again and stay at the Cliffs Resort in Princeville, Kauai, HI as well.
We are looking into using either LivingSocial or Groupon travel as a family Christmas present to either Mexico or Costa Rica ( currently $260 for 4 nights on LivingSocial) this year because we have had such a great experience with this trip.
If you have anymore question feel free to ask away. Thank you for the great article on MoneySavingMom and I love your blog !”
She added in a second e-mail,
“Our 15 year anniversary was spent in Yellowstone for 8 days, I got a studio sized cabin (queen bed, kitchenette, bathroom, couch, table, chairs, porch) in Driggs, ID (about 30 mins from Grand Teton National Park and 45 mins from South entrance, 2 hours from North entrance of Yellowstone) for $225 for the week! That was the best score ever.”
Aren’t those amazing deals? Thank you so much Crystal! I love seeing how people, with a little time and effort, save TONS of money on everything from diapers to vacations.
We are planning our ten-year anniversary {I am that old?!?!} and hope to use Groupon or Living Social to get more bang for our bucks! What’s your best vacation deal ever?
