Well we made it through the month of January with no “cheats” on the New Years’ challenge! (New to the blog? You can read more about the year of thrift store shopping here.)
And this month, I won’t be buying any new clothes, so it will be a relatively “easy” month! (Staying away from Target is my #1 defense tool! Ha!)
If you’ll remember, January’s first trip to Goodwill involved getting new workout gearI got a total of 7 pieces for around $40.
A few weeks ago, I went with my thrift-store partner in crime Nikki, and her sweet little babe, to look for jeans. I’m at a weird spot in my weight loss journey (it seems I always am!) and wanted good jeans but to not spend too much. After reading a blog post about “mom jeans” I was even more terrified to be able to find not only a pair of jeans that aren’t mom-ish (even though I’m proudly a mom of 4!), but find them in a thrift or resale shop!
Nikki and I decided on Plato’s Closet for our adventure. I came away with three pairs of jeans for $40. Not bad, right?
Here’s my favorite pair, and my new favorite brand:
They’re Earl Jeans, which I had not previously seen before. They are a tad bit long but other than that they fit well, and best of all, they hold their shape throughout the day. I found them on Amazon later for around $33 (although some days they’re as high as 40.) Not terrible for a new pair of jeans, but these are very close to brand new and were $18.
I also got a pair of Forever21 Skinnies for $7, which sounds great, but it about killed me to spend that because I have an identical pair I got brand-new for $7.90 last summer. I know that I love them though, so I went ahead and got them. Last of all, I got a pair of Maurice’s stretch jeans for $14. They’re very cute but don’t exactly hold their shape too well so my love for them is still up in the air. 🙂
These are shoes my hubby got me for Christmas for $10 at Burlington Coat Factory. (preceding the days of solely Thrift Store Shopping. Ha!) He did such a good job picking them out, it’s almost like I was with him! ahem.
I had to add this picture because for once, my hair was doing good things (if you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that my hair isn’t this color anymore, though) and honestly, who doesn’t love a good outfit post with their adorable daughter and her stick horse? I digress.
Those jeans look GREAT on you! So, Plato’s Closet is a good place to get clothes, yes? I’ll never try selling to them again because that was just a waste of time. I like the lace in your top. Was that a thrifting find, too?

I’ve been amazed at what I can save at the thrift store, but Target is my Achilles heel.

I think setting a challenge like this for yourself makes the decision to not shop at all or only shop at thrift stores really fun, because you’re doing it very purposefully! You definitely had some good finds! I’m not on a challenge, per se, but I haven’t bought any clothes in 2014 yet, my husband and I are planning to move this year and I’m on a mission not to add anything to all the stuff that will already have to be sorted and packed!
The jeans look good on you! This thrift shopping idea is great…although not sure I could resist. I love Target too much.

Okay I do have to say I am here from Blogelina because I couldn’t get the link to work that was posted. Anyway I was looking through your posts and found this one. I am planning on starting my weight loss journey and I love the idea of going to Platos Closet to find those in between jeans!! This is an awesome idea! Thanks so much and good luck on your journey.
